How to Extract Captions from Video

Before you can turn a video into a resource page, you need the text. Here are the fastest methods:

YouTube Videos

1. Open the video on YouTube
2. Click ... → Show transcript
3. Toggle off timestamps
4. Copy all text
5. Paste into Claude Code with /caption-to-resource

Instagram Reels

• Option A: Copy the caption text directly from the post
• Option B: Use Instagram's auto-captions — screenshot them and send to Claude to extract the text
• Option C: If you have the original video file, use a free transcription tool

Any Video/Audio File

Use Whisper (free, local, most accurate):

pip install openai-whisper
whisper video.mp4 --model medium --output_format txt

Or use TurboScribe (turboscribe.ai) for a browser-based option — upload your file and copy the transcript.

Claude Code + Chrome Extension

If you have Claude Code connected to Chrome, just say: "Read the captions from this video" and Claude will extract them directly from the page.
